If you had any type of procedure done and are experiencing high levels of pain and swelling, or even an abscess, please contact our office or call the after-hours number provided by the answering service. If you have an emergency, please go to the emergency room immediately. If you had an extraction done this day, take the pain medicine as prescribed, and place ice over the area for 20 minute intervals as much as possible for the first 24 hours. Some slight bleeding or oozing is common. Excessive bleeding warrants a phone call to the dentist. During the first 24 hours after an extraction, avoid spitting, smoking, drinking through a straw, and drinking carbonated beverages.
