What to Expect at Your First Visit

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Your first dental visit will run around an hour and half. It is a great chance for you and our team to get to know each other. This is especially true for baby visits, which are primarily about familiarizing your little one with the office and our team.

Before anything else, we will ask you about your oral health history and at-home brushing and flossing routine. You’ll also be able to share any concerns you might have about your teeth and gums.

Then we will move on to the next parts of your first visit:

xrays

Digital X-Rays

Digital radiographs, or X-rays, allow us to thoroughly evaluate your teeth and jawbone. We use digital instead of traditional X-rays because they are ready instantly, produce minimal radiation, and provide clearer images. These benefits mean we can detect and diagnose any issues at their earliest stages and take the most conservative approaches to treatment planning. X-rays are not only useful for recording your current oral health but are also what we will refer back to over time to check for any significant changes.

We’ll also create a 3D model of your mouth from a digital scan so that you can see on the screen exactly what we’re seeing in the mouth. This creates a more interactive and enjoyable experience.

whiten

Prophylaxis

Your dental hygienist will perform a professional cleaning. This is a thorough clean to remove hardened tartar that your toothbrush and floss can’t dislodge at home. It’s important to have a professional cleaning every six months to maintain a high standard of oral health.

If your hygienist spots any signs of periodontal disease or gum problems during your evaluation, we will delay prophylaxis to a future appointment. In this case, it’s important to receive periodontal therapy first to get the gums back to health.

Presentation of Findings

Your dentist will present the overall findings from your evaluation so you know the current status of your oral health. They will also provide guidance about any recommended treatment that will help you achieve your oral health goals. At Phipps Dental Practice, we take a conservative approach to treatment. Your dentist will only recommend further treatment if it is necessary to help you to improve your oral health or achieve your goals.

financial

Financial Consultation

We understand that an individual’s financial situation might affect their choice of treatment. You can rest assured that at Phipps Dental Practice, we are completely transparent about the cost of treatment. You will receive a comprehensive list of any recommended treatments and their associated costs so you can decide what course of action is best for you. This treatment plan will include time-sensitive treatments as well as preventive options to help you avoid the escalation of any current needs.
